US-GPS & EU-GALILEO Agreement
U.S. says to reach GPS-Galileo agreement this week
The United States and the European Union, (according to Reuters, July 17) are close to signing an agreement that would allow their satellite navigation systems to work together to provide more accurate information.
Under the agreement, both EU and U.S. satellites would send information on the same radio frequency, enabling receivers to get signals from both systems and combine the data.
Impact on Galileo-Radar (GR)
1. GR will benefit from this agreement, where one GR reciever will be able to pick up signals from both systems.
2. 30 US-GPS combined with 30 EU-Galileo satellites will enable accuracy never befor possible.
3. The EU-Galileo satellites orbit lower than the US-GPS enabling a better coverage in urban areas.
