Motorola to integrate pico projector in cellphone

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

picopMotorola, a major cell phone maker, is planning to integrate a pico projector in future cell phones.

Impact on Galileo-Radar (GR)

GR will eventually be integrated into common mobile devices like cell phones. GR will display information on see-through eye glasses. The Motorola news enhances GR display options. The possibility to project images cupled with projection direction sensing, enables GR to display information, related to the direction the device is pointing at, in a large format.

Example - you point your GR cell phone at a restaurant you see out your car window. The GR pico projector will display information related to that location on the window. The information will seem to be super imposed over that restaurant. The information might be face pictures of your friends that are in that restaurant right now.

Sprint-Nextel - New Social Network Service

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

socSprint-Nextel has announced a new services (July 17, 2007) enabling users to access social networking sites, and letting customers locate each other using GPS technology.

Impact on Galileo-Radar (GR)

GR will have a significant role in the emerging trend and market drive for social networking and “friend finding” applications.

GR is different in the following ways:

1.GR points to the direction the “friend”, eliminating the need to look at a map. On the Sprint-Nextel system you can only see locations on a map.

2. GR is not limited to “registered friends”. GR will enable finding new friends with similar interests. Sprint-Nextel system is limited to registered friends.

3. GR will not rely on cell phone communication but rather on WiMax, reducing costs dramatically. Sprint-Nextel service costs a monthly fee of $2-$3 plus Internet access time used.

4. GR will alert automatically when a friend is within proximity. Sprint-Nextel requires the user to set up communication, access the Internet, access the application, and look at a map.

satU.S. says to reach GPS-Galileo agreement this week

The United States and the European Union, (according to Reuters, July 17) are close to signing an agreement that would allow their satellite navigation systems to work together to provide more accurate  information.

Under the agreement, both EU and U.S. satellites would send information on the same radio frequency, enabling receivers to get signals from both systems and combine the data.

Impact on Galileo-Radar (GR)
1. GR will benefit from this agreement, where one GR reciever will be able to pick up signals from both systems.
2. 30 US-GPS combined with 30 EU-Galileo satellites will enable accuracy never befor possible.
3. The EU-Galileo  satellites orbit lower than the US-GPS enabling a better coverage in urban areas.

Alcatel-Lucent to deploy WiMAX network in France

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

icon_wimax.gifAlcatel-Lucent announced (July 12, 2007) they had signed a two-year contract for the supply and installation of the first next-generation WiMAX network in France, using standard 802.16e

Based on the latest standard IEEE 802.16e-2005, the new radio network will use the 3.4 – 3.6 GHz frequency band. It will enable professional and residential subscribers alike to connect to broadband Internet in fixed and nomadic environments.

“This first WiMAX reference in France confirms Alcatel-Lucent’s commitment to this technology, which is at the core of our universal broadband access strategy. It shows moreover that we are devoting the best of our R&D resources to satisfy our customers in France and throughout the world.”

Impact on Galileo-Radar (GR)

The emerging trend of deploying WiMax 802.16e in Europe has a significant impact on the way the Galileo-Radar Personal Device (GR-PD) will communicate with the Galileo-Radar Social Network Arena (GR-SNA). WiMax means Internet broadband, and the the 802.16e standard means Mobile-WiMax. GR will benefit from Broadband Mobile Internet meaning - allways connected, allways communicating, allways on.

The GR-PD client application will be able to transmit information to the GR-SNA server, from time to time, without the need for the user to start a communication session as is demanded today with GPRS cell phone applications. Most of the GR communication will be Machine to Machine (M2M) with out the need of any involvement on behalf of the user.
